Experienced Teacher Education Grant

What?
A grant of up $1,000 is available for a teacher who is interested in pursuing an advanced degree in reading or becoming a Nationally Board Certified Teacher in reading/language arts.

Who?
Any teacher who is a member of the Kentucky Reading Association.

When?
Applications due:  September 17, 2021

Grants awarded:  October, 2021

Grant implementation: 2021-2022 school year

The application consists of a description of the teacher’s philosophy of reading instruction and plans for the advanced degree of National Board Certification.

A current resume is required to be uploaded. Please provide the document in one of the following formats: .txt, .rtf, .doc, .docx, .pdf

Applications must be authored by the educator implementing the project. 

Judging Criteria

Winning grant proposals demonstrate:

  • Clearly defined philosophy of reading instruction that contributes to good teaching.
  • Clearly articulated plans and goals for a professional future in teaching that include leadership roles.

Priority will be given to those teachers who are willing to share their knowledge and experience of the benefits of this grant through intent to submit a proposal to present at the KRA Annual Conference, write a brief article for the KRA newsletter, or submit an article for the KRA journal. 

Completion and Appraisal

Upon completion of their coursework or National Board portfolio, or no later than December 30, 2022, each teacher is required to send a written appraisal of the use of the grant. The purpose of the appraisal is to aid the teacher and KRA in determining how successfully the grant was implemented. If an appraisal is not received, the teacher will be ineligible for future grants.

NOTE:  Receipt of college tuition paid or National Board Application fee paid due by August 1, 2021.
